Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!  I am super excited today because we have a three day weekend ahead and then next week is the last week of school.

For Friday Favorites today I thought it would be fun to do a little what I am watching/reading right now.  First up...

American Dirt is one of the best books I have read so far this year.  Oh my goodness.  This book had me captivated from the start and thinking about it long after I had put it down.  It opened up my eyes and my heart to the lives of migrants and what they go through and why to come to the US.  That's all I will say about it, but I do recommend it!

There have been King of Queens marathons on TV this week to remember and honor Jerry Stiller who recently passed away.  This show is so funny and light and the perfect thing for me right now.  I used to watch it all the time after Garth and I were married and even had some on DVD.  I haven't watched it in years and it's been so fun to sit down watch a couple of episodes and h…

Cheery Cherry Cupcakes

About a week ago I asked Holden to go through one of my baking cookbooks to pick out something we could make together.  He picked these fun cherry cupcakes and they were really easy to make.  I wanted to share the recipe in case you wanted to try them too!

We got the recipe out of this cookbook that I found at Half Price Books years ago.

Here are the ingredients you will need.

1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 can of vanilla frosting
1 21 oz. can of cherry pie filling
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup of oil
1-1/3 cups of water

That's it.  Super easy, no fuss ingredients.

First up, use all of your strength and this face to open your box of cake mix.  Haha!

In a bowl, combine your dry cake mix, water, oil and eggs.  Spoon batter by 1/4 cupfuls into paper-lined muffin cups.

Spoon a rounded teaspoon of pie filling onto the center of each cupcake.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted on an angle toward the center tests clean.  Cool completely in tins on wire racks.  …

House Tour Tuesday-Kitchen Edition

Hello, hello!  Welcome back to House Tour Tuesday.  Today we are going to be looking at my kitchen.  I love having these to look back on, especially if we do updates or ever change anything.  We redid our kitchen in our old house and I always got so tickled to see a picture of what it looked like before.  Anyway, on to the tour.

Our kitchen is right past the dining room and the guest bathroom off to the left when you come in our home.

Here is what you see when you turn the corner and come into the kitchen.  I feel like I was having  a really hard time with lighting.  It was either too bright or too dark.  I think I just need a new phone.  Lol.

I use the island to prepare all of our meals.  I always put my crock pot on there too and often times my instant pot.

Here is a view standing on the other side of our kitchen facing the fridge and the coffee spot.  This is also the wine spot on some evenings.  :-)

Here is our Keurig and french press that I talked about in a Friday Favorites pos…

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday.  Today I am linking up with a few fun bloggers for a Monday blog.

I feel like this weekend was the FASTEST weekend of all time.  I thought it was supposed to rain all weekend but guess what?  No rain.  Which was good because we were able to get some things done that I didn't think would happen.  Let's recap.

There was some last minute catch up of a research project that is the bane of Holden's my existence.

Holden worked hard on a map of our neighborhood this weekend and kept adding details to it.  The Prime truck coming down our street was my favorite!

There were lots of snuggles to be had with Piper.

Garth had to meet with some clients on Saturday and I was itching to get out of this house.  Holden and I ended up going to Target and it felt SO good to get out of the house and do something normal.  It wasn't crowded at all, I got a newly sanitized cart from the cart boy and I felt like we were able to steer clear of everyone.  It was great!

I found the…

Friday Favorites

TGIF!  Happy Friday, everyone.  Whew.  I am more than happy that it's Friday today.  This week was long.  Does anyone else feel that?  I am ready for summer for sure!  I have some fun and very random things to share today so let's get to it.

First up is a random one, but I have been loving this Method Laundry Detergent.  Do I love doing laundry?  Not really.  Do I hate doing laundry?  Not really.  It's just one of those things.  However, this laundry detergent makes my whole house smell good when I am washing clothes.  And I feel like the smell lingers long after the laundry has been put away.  This is a favorite this week!
This view from our back patio is definitely a favorite.  The weather in Houston has been so great lately and I will usually end up out here at some point during my day to work.  I will definitely miss this when it's time to go back to regular teaching.

I use Amazon Music for my streaming service and I discovered this week that I have a playlist o…

Mexico Trip-2020 or The Time I Discovered Coati

I am going to throw it back a couple of months to recap our trip to Mexico that we took in February.  I feel like we are so lucky that we were able to go on this trip and basically squeeze it in right before all of the craziness hit with the pandemic.

Garth and I try to go on a trip just the two of us every few years or so.  Lately though, we have talked about doing it once a year which I totally think we should do!  Holden stayed with Garth's parents and had a great time with their new poodle puppy, Rosie.  We are grateful to them for allowing us to do this.

This year we went to the Grand Riviera Princess in Riviera Maya, Mexico and it did not disappoint. There were many restaurants on sight to choose from, the beach was beautiful and clean and there are a ton of pools.  You could choose a fun activity to do or find a quiet place to just chill and read.  We were more of the quiet place with a good book people.

On our way!  I am really hoping we can travel again soon and that th…
